Netserver LH PRO as a Windows 2000 IIS5 web server

I am interested in installing Windows 2K on my Netserver LH PRO so it can be used as an IIS5 web server.

Our team's debate is if this box a good candidate for this applications since Windows 2K isn't supported on the LH PRO.

Should we be concerned about is instability, hardware incompatability and unavailability of drivers?

Hello,
I think one question is what is supported and another is what does work. I don't see any problems running IIS and Win2k in LH pro as I don't see any problem in running Linux, etc. If you have all the drives working fine, so keep running! That's what I really would do. About Microsoft's support, for experienced administrators, it doesn't matter. Today we have many forums and people interested in helping us.
HTH,
Sidney.

I installed W2k Server /w 2IS on my LH Pro without any problems at all. It's a Dual PPro 166 and runs like a charm.
The only thing I can really advise is don't bother trying to run W2K setup from CDROM...mine hung as soon as it hit the "Setup is inspecting hardware...".
I used the W2K Server boot disks and I haven't looked back since.

The video card drivers I have yet to find. I have tried several with no success. In lieu of having to look at a terrible resolution on a monitor, I use Terminal Server in Admin mode to administer the server, also reduces the need for a monitor.

I have heard and also experienced the video card issue on a lh pro and win2k. I was told that the only way to have a card give you a higher res than 640x480 at 16 colors is to disable switch 8 on the motherboard and use a second video card in a pci slot. I did this with a number 9 pci card and it works withouth flaw. Hope this helps

Re: Netserver LH PRO as a Windows 2000 IIS5 web server

In regards to the video. I am running an LD Pro and cannog find the drivers for the on-board video. When I install win2000 it thinks it is a trident 9320/9440/9470 but that driver will not start. I did install another trident video card in slot 8 but the same IRQ is used for the scsi and won't let the viceo go to higher resolutions. If I install the video in slot 9 it hangs the network and drops the connection after time outs.
Anybody have any comments?

John

Re: Netserver LH PRO as a Windows 2000 IIS5 web server

I have four of these Netserver LH Pros and all but one is running Win 2000 IIS5. I have exchanged the dual 200 for dual 200 1meg cache, and the load sharing between the four of them is phenominal.

I am able to run six websites, plus two forums with no problems. They are able to keep up with my 2M/2M dsl with no problems

The fourth Netserver is still running Win 4.0 Server and that is the one I use for Terminal Services to communicate to the other three.

Life is beautiful and these boxes have not let me down once.

I am trying to install Win2k Advanced server on a NetServer LH Pro and cannot seem to find the correct drivers for the SCSI CD-Rom.
Any suggestions?

i have the same problems, also i found the NT3.5 drivers for the onboard videocard (its a trident9000i card! found the chip on the board)

the drivers are attached, maybe they work under win2k, or somebody can modifiy them (the inf file) to let them work under win2k...

Re: Netserver LH PRO as a Windows 2000 IIS5 web server

Someone already posted it higher up but...

If you have a Netraid adapter in the server your primary NTFS partition needs to be less than 8 Gigs or it won't boot after install.

Next, to get decent video you need to flip the #8 switch on the motherboard. This disables the onboard video card.(That Trident 9000i is unsupported by Win2k) Then install your own video card.

These two solutions have allowed me to rebuild 4 of our Netserver Pro's to Win2k Server.

Thanks,
