Re: NetServer LH3r

Hi Randy,

From the look of it, I am thinking that the Winodws 2003 EE CD may be not bootable. Have you tried a different Windows 2003 EE CD?

Are the hard drives configured in a raid? If you have a raid configured then make sure the logical drive is initialized.

But, if you are trying to upgrade an existing installation on an exisitng logical drive, initializing is not required. Initializing drive swips out allthe content of the logical drive.

My question is, if you can not boot from the installation CD how did you know the hard drives are not recognized? because if the windows 2003 EE installation is not initiated then there is no way that you can reach to the point where the installation process will look for the hard drives (or logical drive)?

Or come back with a clear history of what happened and you will be able to get some help from this forum

Re: NetServer LH3r

OK the HDD are in a raid, and they are recognized, in the NetRaid utility. I have tried to use another CD, but no luck there. I got this server with all the software cleared out, so I am starting from scratch and have no idea where to begin. I do have a CD with all the divers n it, but it is not bootable, and when I press F6 at the start scren I get no options for the CD drive. I have it set to boot from the Floppy first and then CD. The Floppy doesn't even light up on POST. I will try to get more info, liiek errors or screen shots Thnx, Randy Hooper

Re: NetServer LH3r

I figured out what I was doing wrong, its hardware riad not software, so I needed to get int the program and configure the HDD's. If you hadnt mentioned the RAID ot being detected I would have never thought of it. Thanks. I am now trying to find any info on the MoBo upgradeability, any ideas where to find info? I have tried searching HP but to no avail. L8R, and Thnx, Hoop

Re: NetServer LH3r

We deal with this server all the time, so let me se if I can help.
Make sure you have all the last drivers for the server. You can download the Win2000 drivers from HP, I think those were the last ones, but also 2003 may include usable drivers. You will need them to use the RAID if Windows did not install one. I knonw XP will install one.
You can now install the HP RAID manager to manipulate the RAID or you can use the BIOS configurator by hitting when prompted as the RAID BIOS loads at startup.
We would suggest adding a modern cheap video card also. 600x800 just does not cut it for modern Windows.
We also would suggest replacing the SCSI RAID with a more modern U320 card if your going to use the server, much faster.
As for the CD not booting, this could be the boot order setting in BIOS, put it at the top, or may be the CD drive is bad, or as mentioned the CD itself.

Re: NetServer LH3r

e4services, Thanks. I now understand I need to press Ctrl+M and access the raid Configuration and Activate it. As far as the CD not booting I had some dirt on the lens, which I cleaned and it worked. drivers are a little difficult to find for this machine and 2K3 server. But I will not give up. I need to find one for the PCI adapter and one that says Devices and question marks. Thanks all Ya all for your help, if you know of any other things I can try let me know please. L8R Randy Hooper
