Re: No video

No video

I can't get any video from my Netserver LH Plus from either the video port or an installed video card. Any ideas?

Re: No video

Unplug the system for 5 minutes. Don't use the video card. Also make sure everything is seated, memory, cpu, cards, boards, cables.... etc.

Re: No video

I have checked all the cables, jumpers, and chips. Everything is seated properly. The CPU is OK because it works in another box. I could use a few more suggestions. Thanks.

Re: No video

Hi,

did you have a look at the bios already. There are some settings for video there. Maybe one of these is set to a wrong value by mistake.
I would also consider a bios upgrade (or reflash).

Re: No video

How would I check the BIOS or reflash it if I can't see video to know what I am doing?

Re: No video

Call HP NetServer Support, while the Server is probably out of warrrenty, we will help you to TS the problem.

Reseating everything is the first step, along with making sure all the switch settings are correct. There is a video enable system switch on that server.

Re: No video

I have obtained an eprom burner. Can someone tell me what type of eprom the BIOS chip is or what it will cross to? This way I can read the contents if there are any.

Re: No video

I found out what type of eprom it is and have read the contents of the BIOS. Can someone do a comparison to a known good BIOS for me? The file is attached. Thanks in advance.

Re: No video

I believe I have made a mistake by saying that I have no video. I think it would have video if it would boot up. That is why I am wondering about the BIOS. When I viewed the file I attached in my last message it didn't look anything like what I read off of the BIOS. I am going to reattach a zipped version. Perhaps this will work better.

Re: No video

I think your bios is corrupt. Have you tried to reset it using the dipswitches on the motherboard ? Maybe this will help you. Does your server continue at this moment whithout video or does it completely hang ? If you see some movement (disk access or processor usage) maybe you can boot from a bios flash diskette to install a latest bios. Give it a try !

Re: No video

Thanks Dries,

Can you suggest the procedure as to which dip switches to set because I don't have the documentation for this LH Plus?

Thanks,

Re: No video

Robert,

I have uploaded the manual for your server that describes the complete mainboard and all switches. I had to cut some of the pages (views ...) to make it less than 1 MB

Robert,

It seems like the upload doesn't work well for this forum. If you give your email adres i will mail it to you.

Re: No video

I am still trying to figure this problem out. I thought perhaps that the problem wasn't BIOS because I couldn't get any activity from the floppy on power up. That made me think motherboard, but I just powered the server on again and when I did a reset all the scsi drives restarted which means that there is life on the motherboard. The problem exists that without the floppy working on powerup I can't run the configuration utility to flash the BIOS with the upgrade. Is there a way that someone could send me a known good BIOS file so that I can reburn the EPROM with my EPROM programmer? Many thanks to anyone that can help.
