Re: PCI Memory Controller in Device Manager Windows 2000 on LT 6000u3
this is the embedded raid controller (which has some cache memory on it).
Install the drivers from the Navigator cd's as Darko mentioned already and this should all be gone since it will find an .inf file to describe the now unknown device.

Re: PCI Memory Controller in Device Manager Windows 2000 on LT 6000u3
best thing you can do is check to see what eventual other PCI cards are installed in your LH4 (i.e. Netraid 3Si or Netraid 2M or non HP cards).
That card is missing it's .inf file to load some dummy driver in fact. It is not a problem to leave it like this, the device is working properly it's just that w2k does not recognize it's category.
Did you tried to load the file from the navigator cd \periph\netraid\w2k\ultra2\node8ld.inf ? (attached here)
If this does not help, could you post a screenshot of the device manager here in the forum and eventual a HP Support Ticket (to be taken offline). I'd like to see if this unknown device is alone or associated with others.

Re: PCI Memory Controller in Device Manager Windows 2000 on LT 6000u3
Thanks for the thoughts. I have looked inside the machine and there are no PCI cards except for a NIC card.
I have tried to load the driver for the integrated card from the website as well. The file was very similar to yours but for an LH4. Is the file you included for a LH 4 too?
I am not using the integrated Netraid controller. This is a smalll demo/dev lab and I have simply installed W2k Server on my L$ and and have 4 36GB drives. That is it.
I wonder if when this Netraid controller is disabled from the BIOS if for some reason Windows Still sees it and is confused.
If you are telling me that this is ok then I can ignore it. Its just that I hate leaving things not addressed.
I am on with HP support now I will update this again when I am done!
Thanks

Re: PCI Memory Controller in Device Manager Windows 2000 on LT 6000u3
I worked with HP Support and once I enabled the device in the BIOS and loaded the driver the Unknown Device disappeared. When I went back after and turned off the device in the BIOS the Unknown Device came back.
As soon as I enable it again it in the BIOS goes away. So it must not be the driver. My the conclusion is that whether the device driver is loaded in windows or not if the integrated NETRAID controller is disabled you will get the Unknown Device "PCI Memory Controller" in Device Manager.
Any other thoughts are welcome.

Re: PCI Memory Controller in Device Manager Windows 2000 on LT 6000u3
Here is my theory on this. I have a Netraid 3si also on this server, and I disabled the Integrated Netraid because I wanted to try to get rid of the i960 I/O processor error message on startup. However, HP does not offer a BIOS option to completely disable SCSI on the BIOS. You can either confiugre for RAID, or LVD SCSI. but you can't just turn off the controller completely.
I think that the integrated netraid is conflicting with the i960 processor on the Netraid 3si. The i960 error message is produced because the Integrated Netraid and the 3si card are competing for resources, and therefore they can't properly configure themselves on the PCI bus.
To solve this problem, HP should offer the ability to completely disable the onboard SCSI card on the motherboard. I have a hunch this would solve these problems.
