Question about netraid configuation.

I have a HP Netserver LH3r with a netraid controller. I have 3 hd's on the system running Raid 5 I believe. I had to use the netraid controller to fix another systems and got a replacement Netraid controller of the exact same type. Is there anyway to restore my configuration so it sees my data again without doing a restore from backup? The data is not critical, but it would just save me from hours of work rebuilding everything I had on there if there was a quicker solution.

The config information is stored on the HDD. All you will need to do is install the new netraid controller in the same slot, connect the drives and boot. During boot, you will get an error stating there is a "config mismatch". At this point go into ctrl-m. Select configure > view/add/delete/configuration > View disc configuration. This will pull the config from the HDD. Make sure the config looks valid, then save the config. When you reboot, the system should function as it did before.

Thanks for the quick response but it looks like the config is gone. I will just have to reinstall. Next time I will know what to do.

The other option is to re-create the RAID array exactly. Do not Initialize the drives as this will wipe out everything.
Using the Disk Configuration stored on the hard drives usually works very well - but you only get one chance at it. If you, for instance, save the Controller configuration instead, there will not be an option to select the Hard Drive configuration when you go into Express Tools again.
If you are not sure what the RAID array was, use all the default properties. You would need to re-create using the same number of drives and disk capacity.
For future reference! This makes it a very good idea to document your existing RAID arrays.
