SCO 5.0.5 - Informix data table records missing in action.
Informix data table records missing in action.
Actually 2/3 of the records are missing. Out of 1.5 million records only 500,000 were there after I did a restore of the entire DB. Of course the end user waited two weeks to mention the BLACK HOLE.
What I am wondering is if anyone has ever done the following to recover a table
#1 backup live DB
#2 restore good DB-Nov16
#3 move DBNov-16 to a dbtest subd
#4 stop trasaction log - restart it in test area
#5 restore live DB
#6 unload newer records from live DB [>Nov 16]to a text file
#7 load text file into DB-Nov16 in dbtest subd
....
#8 copy table.dat & idx into the live DB subd
#9 update statistics in live DB
....
and life goes on.
The table is a billing table that is updated about once a week, and one set of transactions would still be missing but it is history only and would not effect the overall operation. That particular missing billing from Nov20 could not be reprinted but the other million records would be back into the table and the bills could be re-printed.
Is this a viable FIX ?
thank you for any input.

Is this an HP Server? HP tape drive?
