Re: Swap Netraid 1m for Netraid 2m

Swap Netraid 1m for Netraid 2m

Is it possible to migrate an existing working netserver lp1000r using a netraid 1m card in a raid 5 configuration to the same configuration with a Netraid 2m card?

Thanks

Hi Jon,

Officially, HP says that you cannot migrate from a NetRAID-1M to a NetRAID-2M but I am anxious to try it. Essentially, they are the same card except that the 2M has an extra channel and more cache. They both use the same firmware and driver. Try recreating your array using the same config parameters. Make sure your stripe size is the same and the drives are in the same order. Exit without initializing and see if it boots.
Write back and let us know how it works.

Good Luck,

Not sure I want to take the challenge to see if it works or not on a production server.

I asked because our server is colocated in another city so should the 1M card fail I could replace it with the 2M (or the system engineer could ;-) ).

That's a long time I have not been playing with Netraid adapters.
I would say that there will be no problem. They are using the same chip. You won't even have to reconfigure the Raid... When you will replace the 1m with the 2m, at the first reboot, you will have to go in ctrl + M. the Netraid will detect that there is a configuration mistmatch between adapter and disks. select load config from disk then save the configuration and reboot... That is it.
