tc2120 & network issues
This one is a real red herring...
My client has a tc2120 which acts as (1) Internet gateway (2) printer server (3) file server (small office, 5 users).
The Internet gateway is via Kerio Software's WinRoute Pro 4.2 and a second NIC connected to a D-Link DSL router. The printer is a d145 all-in-one connected via USB.
Previously one of the users' workstations (d310v) running WinXP was doing all of the above, as well as being a PC. Everything worked just fine, no problems with any of the functions, just a bit slow when other users used the printer.
After installing the server (also running WinXP) and migrating the WinRoute and printing functions onto it, two things happen that won't go away.
(1) Internet connections intermittently get "hung" and the users have to click the "refresh" button. This is apparently quite annoying, but when you are in a secure site (eg banking) it's no good at all because you can't refresh.
This will happen several times per day, but with no predictability.
(2) The printer won't behave as ordered but this is outside the scope of this particular forum.
So far I have
*re-installed the server with Win 2K Server -- no change
*re-installed with Win 2K Pro -- no change!
*replaced the 2nd NIC (Was a D-Link 530, stopped working altogether at one point, replaced with another identical one) -- no change
*replaced the NIC again with a D5013B (NetServer 10/100 LAN adapter) -- no change.
*run diagnostics on the tc2120 -- everything comes up clean
E-mail support can't help, other than to suggest running diagnostics on the D5013B which I will do tomorrow. But since the problem has not changed it's highly unlikely that will show anything up.
Anyone seen anything like this before? Got any ideas? The users are pulling their hair out...

Re: tc2120 & network issues
I don't think you have a hardware issue since it has no change with multiple NICs.
Check out this FAQ, causes of your issue include temporary loss of connection with your ISP and also if your WinRoute is expired.

Ciao,

Re: tc2120 & network issues
Thanks Greg,
I forgot to mention that the ISP and Telco have checked & double-checked everything, and they swear blind there is no problem on their side.
And the WinRoute definitely hasn't expired -- it's a licenced legal installation.
It's the intermittency of the problem that's so frustrating. It looks like I will have to "work around" it by removing the server from the circuit and relying on the "firewall" capability of the DSL router...
Thanks again -- have a good day.
Chris

Re: tc2120 & network issues
User reinstalled the printer and everything now works!
