upgrade netserver 5/133 LS

I wanted to upgrade netserver 5/133 LS. Is there anyway I can get the upgrade path like CPU, Memory or motherboard

Re: upgrade netserver 5/133 LS

I don't think that upgrading such an old system makes much sense - too expensive.

I've got a LF 5/66, a LM/2 5/66, a LD Pro 180 and a E45 here. The main problem with these old systems is that new operating systems won't run on them.

You could try:
- get spare parts from HP (EXPENSIVE)
- get memory from Kingston
- buy parts on ebay

Re: upgrade netserver 5/133 LS

1st I would try eBay for parts.
The Max mempry is 768mb
The max on CPU is Quad 166
If you put in a dual CPU Board you need a DC-DC power unit.
If you put in 2 single CPU boards you need no power unit.

For WIN2000 - If you have a dual raid card you will have to remove it.
Just connect the cables to the bottom of the main logic board
You see 2 connectors down by PCI 5 slot near the fans in the front.

Also for WIN2000 use the latest BIOS CD number is: S.02.05
at least that what on the one i have

Re: upgrade netserver 5/133 LS

thank you very much for the info. I kind of thought that. Is it possible to get a new motherboard and cpu and memroy and toss out the old one? this way I am using all the drives, chasis etc. what is the highest level I can go? does any motherboard from open market would work or I have stick to the HP dealer network?

I've never tried and I don't know anybody who may have tried but I'm sure that no non-HP system board will fit into a LS box.

Re: upgrade netserver 5/133 LS

thank you Martin.
It seems like I would be using the chasis and power supply only. Hopefully I would be able to find out the 3rd party mother bosr that will fit in the LS chasis.
Thnak you again for saving my time.
