Wiring connection on a RJ45/DB25F Modular Adapter

Our newer G40 Server calls for a pin 20 printer hardware flow. The old NetserverLH3 used a XON/XOFF flow control. I have a Modular kit but the wire color is not helpfull. It looks like blue is pin 2, Black is pin 3 and yellow is pin 7 But I expected black to be 3 and blue 2 if they do cross over. I would conclude that green would lead from pin 20 to pin 5. Is there a color guide available or any specific help would be appriciated.

Re: Wiring connection on a RJ45/DB25F Modular Adapter

William,

I've found the color codes in modular adapter kits to be inconsistent. The only way to be sure is to ohm out the pins(if the modular part is molded inside the hood) or just trace the wires back to the fingers if the modular part is separate from the hood and you can see the back of it.

If you're using DB-25 - to - 8-pin modular adapters at both ends of the cable, the wire color is of no consequence, as long as you pick wires that lead to the same modular connector finger at both ends. (If both adapters are the same model number, the colors *should* be the same ...but assume nothing...)

In any event, I expect that you would want RS-232 pin 20 (DTR) on the printer end (assuming a DB-25 connector) to go to pin 4 (CTS) at the host end (again, assuming a DB-25 connector).

I hope this helps to get you printing OK!

Best Regards,

Dave

Re: Wiring connection on a RJ45/DB25F Modular Adapter

There is a multi-socket on the back of the server that has eight RJ45 type female connectors radiating out of it. So I can plug a network cable into it but how do I actually determine the wire configuration that interfaces with the printer. I don't have a way to safely get an ohm reading from the back side of the multisocket.
I'm starting to get the feeling only an HP tech could configure the printer socket?
