Expanding DL100G2 NAS Server
Is it possible to add an MSA-20 to an existing DL100G2 2Tb Storage Server ? I suspect I would need to remove the existing Adaptec controller and replace it with a 6402 array controller, but if I move the existing 500Gb disks to the MSA-20, will I lose the existing arrays ?

Re: Expanding DL100G2 NAS Server
Hello Dougal,
it is possible to expand capacity. Just plug in an additional SA642 and attach an MSA20.
It is not possible to replace the internal Adaptec Controller because it cause a licence violation from the appliance software.
please read through the specs listed below:
Quickspecs:Add External Storage
NOTE: The HP ProLiant DL100 G2 Storage Server has only one full-length, full-height PCI-x expansion slot which can either be used to add a SCSI card for tape backup or to add a Smart Array 642 controller card to support an external MSA20 storage enclosure.
DL100 G2 Storage Server External Storage Enclosure Bundle
Includes: one Smart Array 642 controller; one Modular Smart Array 20 enclosure with 4 x 250GB 7200 rpm 1.5G SATA drives; Windows Storage Server Workgroup to Standard License Upgrade; cables to connect the MSA20 to the DL100 G2 Storage Server.

Re: Expanding DL100G2 NAS Server
Hi Dougal,
After re-looking at this I did notice a couple of things in the Quick Specs of note.
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12340_div/12340_div.html
1. You will need to make sure that you are running the Standard version of the OS to satisfy the licensing (See the COA label on the server)
2. The 6402 you reference is not explicitly called out in the QS. IT IS SUPPORTED (we will get this fixed in the QS)

Re: Expanding DL100G2 NAS Server
As we also use a tape libary on the server (for Commvault backups), does replacing the SCSI HBA with the 6402 mean that I cannot use the tape drive as well ? Or can I connect the tape drive to the second port on the 6402 ?
