Enhance your WAN with HPE Aruba Networking EdgeConnect 10108 SD-WAN
This blog is authored by Babu Peddu, Senior Product Marketing Manager at HPE Aruba Networking.
The demand for secure edge-to-cloud and site-to-site connectivity continues to surge. Enabling this requires optimizing bandwidth utilization and minimizing data transfer durations with reduced latency —and can ultimately lower costs.
On top of that, the proliferation of IoT devices, expanding 5G connectivity, LLM modelling, and quantum computing require better throughput to meet the demands of future growth and connectivity. SD-WAN is a critical technology that addresses these issues and can ultimately lead to more connected and efficient networking.

Introducing the newest HPE Aruba Networking EdgeConnect SD-WAN gateway
The newest gateway enables high performance networking and secure SD-WAN capabilities in a compact and cost-effective form factor, ideally suited for small branch and remote office environments. It supports 4G/5G/LTE, MPLS and internet-based hybrid WAN transport services, automated and secured by the HPE Aruba Networking SD-WAN Orchestrator centralized management software.

The HPE Aruba Networking EC-10108 SD-WAN Gateway for remote and branch office connectivityThe SD-WAN Orchestrator enables policy-based virtual network segmentation and acceleration of on-premises and SaaS cloud applications. The EC-10108 comes with 1G/10G fiber connectivity, flexible combo ports, and integrated PoE support for devices up to 60W.
The gateway can provide sustained full threat protection at 1Gbps SD-WAN bandwidth and has a max SD-WAN bandwidth of 2Gbps with bidirectional full-duplex traffic. It supports up to 256,000 simultaneous flows with WAN optimization performance up to 500 Mbps.
The 6 ethernet ports enable flexibility by allowing customers to choose and configure combination of either WAN or LAN ports for up to 128 802.1q VLANs. WAN link redundancy is supported via business intent overlays with multiple link bonding options. LAN-side protection includes VRRP and BGP. Additionally, the 120GB SSD provides great memory storage capacity for storing application data and file sharing.
Key features
- Unified fabric: This solution integrates the EdgeConnect SD-WAN gateways with the EdgeConnect SD-Branch and EdgeConnect Microbranch product lines, enabling seamless connectivity between them. This is designed to extend the data path, allowing connectivity between different environments using a mix of EdgeConnect SD-Branch gateways or EdgeConnect Microbranch AP and EdgeConnect SD-WAN gateways. This integration provides a unified solution to manage connectivity between all product lines by automating tunnels and routes.
- Multi-cloud networking: The new tunnel-in-tunnel feature enables users to nest IPSec UDP SD-WAN tunnels within third-party IPSec tunnels, enhancing multi-cloud networking functionality. This feature harnesses the power of EdgeConnect SD-WAN to construct conventional SD-WAN tunnels nested within the global network of tunnels.
- PoE: Reduces cabling, increases scalability, and optimizes power delivery to a broad range of connected devices. This ensures interoperability by transporting power and data through a single cable and can result in reduced OPEX.
- Application performance: Provides tunnel bonding, which allows two or more physical WAN transport services to form a single logical overlay connection to aggregate the performance of all underlying links. This enables seamless data transfer through alternate links in case of link failure for greater reliability. AppExpress monitors traffic for up to 50 applications and optimizes the user experience for high-impact business driven applications. AppExpress intelligently steers network traffic and automatically selects the best path for all applications, identifying paths with reduced latency.
- Cybersecurity: Integrates enterprise-grade security features such as adaptive DDoS mitigate unpredictable threat attacks (ICMP & SYN floods, IP Spoof). DDoS constantly monitors the network in real time to detect and prevent data breaches and system failures, for continuity in business operations. IDS/IPS provides signature-based threat detection and prevention against threats including malware, phishing and anti-virus.
- Built-in next-gen firewall: Provides advanced security features to monitor and filter network traffic, blocking unauthorized access, providing malware prevention, upholding data privacy, and enabling security compliance. IT administrators benefit from end-to-end network visibility and can identify potential risks quickly.
- Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF) segmentation: Enables multiple instances of a routing table to exist in a virtual router and allows them to work simultaneously. This built-in functionality enhances connectivity by enabling network segmentation without the need to purchase additional hardware.
- Unified SASE: Combines the best of networking and security practices for edge-to-cloud and edge-to-edge access and security. Our award-winning Secure Service Edge (SSE) enhances security while providing fast, secure connectivity to applications from anywhere, anytime.
- Automated orchestration to third-party SSE vendors: Automates integration with leading cloud security providers including Zscaler, Netskope, Check Point, Palo Alto Networks, SkyHigh Security, and Broadcom to create a seamless SASE architecture. Automated orchestration and drag‑and‑drop interfaces enable IT operations to configure enterprise‑wide security policies based on business intent.
Choosing the right SD-WAN solution is key for innovation and network modernization success. With the HPE Aruba Networking EdgeConnect SD-WAN solution, you can simplify network design, deployment, and management, ensure robust security enhance performance and potentially reduce the OpEx and CapEx.
