Nonstop - can you rename mediacom tapefile name

I have a tapefile name in mediacom that I want to change to something more meaningful, example mediacom info tapefile backup_new . I want to rename that to backup_nodea_monthly and preserved everything else. Is that possible and how to do this?

Thanks for the reply. This is the Nonstop server, IDCAMS is z/os. I can copy the contents from one tapefile to another using Guardian utilities, just painful as I need to individually copy each tape used and set the correct expiration date for each. And that can amount to 100s and possibly 1000s.

Sure, you can rename the tape file name in Mediacom and preserve everything else. Here’s a simple way to do it:

1. Open Mediacom: Log in and navigate to the section where your tape files are listed.

2. Select the File: Find the file named mediacom info tapefile backup_new.

3. Rename the File: Right-click on the file or use the menu options to select “Rename”.

4. Enter the New Name: Type in backup_nodea_monthly and press Enter.

That should change the name of your tape file to something more meaningful while preserving all other attributes.

If your Mediacom software has a command-line interface or scripting capability, you might use a command similar to:

mv "mediacom info tapefile backup_new" "backup_nodea_monthly"

Remember to make sure no processes are using the file while you rename it.

Don't think we are on the same OS. This is NonStop Guardian not unix. Mediacom on NonStop is something else entirely.

Nope, you can't rename an already defined Tapefile. You can always create a new tapefile with name of your choice and use that for your back-up.
