I am trying to figure out what these tape devices are and I understand that
/dev/rmt/0m is a tape device with rewind.
/dev/rmt/0mn is a tape device with no rewind
but I am unclear on the following:
/dev/rmt/0mb
/dev/rmt/0mnb
Lastly is there a device with an unload option,
(rewind and eject)?

Re: 0m vs 0mb
Try this eject code in your backup script.

Re: 0m vs 0mb
The answers to your questions are one and the same: mt -- although in different man sections. Man 7 mt for your devive descriptions including what the Berkeley tape convention do and man 1 mt for a command that will rewind and (depending upon the tape drive) eject the medium -- offl.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
