10.10 server name resolution
I have a 10.10 server where i am trying to change a relay host. i have modified the ^DS entry in sendmail.cf and checked the resolv.conf and nsswitch for dns and files. also i have made sure that service.switch file in /etc/mail has dns files for hosts. i have also modified the /etc/rc.config.d/mailsrvs file and enterted the relay host name for mail server name. still i have name rsolution issues when i send mail. what could be the issue?
Thanks

Re: 10.10 server name resolution
DS entry in sendmail just does a smart relay of all email to that host. The smart relay host should be resolveable if not then a quick fix would be to add the enrty in /etc/hosts.
But the resolution issue is purely because of /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/nsswitch.conf.
Please verify the entries in those files.

Re: 10.10 server name resolution
Shalom,
DNS configuration should have no effect on senmdmail relay, unless you are using a name instead of an ip address.
You can take DNS out of the mix and get faster mail delivery by using a DS directive with an IP address in it.
After you change /etc/resolv.conf and sendmail, don't forget to restart sendmail.
/sbin/init.d/sendmail stop
/sbin/init.d/sendmail start
