10.20 boot helper

Has anyone tried to use a 10.20 boot helper to boot an 11.00 system?

I have set up a 10.20 boot helper, but I'm not sure if an 11.00 system can use that boot helper successfully.

Thanks!

Re: 10.20 boot helper

The boot helper can be running either 9.x, 10.x, 11.0 or 11i and has to be on the same local subnet.

Here's the IUX online manual that goes into details for the boot helper setup.

Hope this helps

Re: 10.20 boot helper

The problem is that the Ignite Server will check the version of Ignite-UX installed on the Boot Helper. And if it is not the same as on the server, it will report an error.
So, if Ignite Server runs under HP-UX 11.0, Ignite version could be "B.2.6.358", and Boot Helper (under HP-UX 10.20) is with version "A.2.6.358". And error message will say : "B.2.6.358 and A.2.6.358 differ !"

It means that you can't have HP-UX 10.20 and 11.X co-existing at the same time.
It is very annoying, especially when I tried to use my HP-UX 11.X Ignite server to install workstations on a different subnet where they all are installed with HP-UX 10.20 OS for development needs.

Improvement request : Ignite version B.XXX should recognize version A.XXX (when XXX are the same)

note : I haven't tried with Ignite A/B.3.XXX
If it works, just tell it, please.
