10.20 Installation failure

Strange one this...

I'm trying to install 10.20 onto an old D class server. It runs fine until fileset 18 (one of the core filesets I think) and then just hangs. I've tried installing 11.00 and that just panics the server ;-)

I suspect this might be a hardware issue (the server is old and abused), but does anyone have any ideas?

Re: 10.20 Installation failure

You'll need to look at the panic line (panic: trap type ...) to see if it says HPMC which would indeed be a hardware issue. There's not enough of HP-UX installed to look at any logs. I would try a different target disk if possible and remove any optional I/O to simplify things as muchh as possible.

What's the release date on your 10.20?

Look here for the latest:

Re: 10.20 Installation failure

Could be all sorts of things, what model D is it?

Sounds as though it runs OK though, can you install on a different boot disk?

Have you ensured that the SCSI card(s) are terminated? The 'internal' disks are (depending on model) connected to what looks like an external SCSI card and that should be terminated.

Re: 10.20 Installation failure

The server is a D360 and the 10.20 CD is from April 98. I used the same media on a number of D classes (D350 and D370) without a problem.

I've tried installing on different disks, and removed a disk that I knew to be faulty. The same problem occurs.

I will check the SCSI termination as this machine used to have an external disk unit attached, but I would have expected it to fail earlier in the install if there was a problem.

Hi, Jason

Could you try with another OS media. If didn't succeed then it's the problem with hardware.
