10.20 swagentd oddity
Hi,
I'm suspicious what the heck swagentd is performing on this 10.20 box.
When I wanted to do a mere swlist lookup
the command hung, and I had to sigkill it.
I checked that swagentd and the rpcd were running, which had been the case.
Thus I stopped and restarted swagentd through its rc/init script.
On startup it hangs and displays this somewhat upsetting output:
# /sbin/init.d/swagentd start
* Removing /var/adm/sw/lbin/swagent and swagentd
* Removing /var/adm/sw/sbin/sw commands
Because I became nervous and feared of an entire /var/adm/sw extinction I interrupted.
When I had a dekko at the init script I discovered that there were indeed considerable appearances of rms in a CleanupSwgettools function, which itself should only be called after a successful return from another OSUpdateComplete function.
No, I didn't have an OS Update on this box recently.
I mean this is and has been ruddy 10.20 for the last six years, or so.
Any advice how to get swagentd working would be welcome as I urgently need to install an SD depot on this box.
Cheers
Ralph

Re: 10.20 swagentd oddity
Hi Ralph:
Well, obviously, the script "thought" that it was cleaning up from an OS upgrade.
I'd like to know what '/sbin/is_local_root' does, but its a binary...
Looking at the script suggests to me that you should be able to restore from backup (perhaps by extracting from an Ignite tape) the entities that were removed from the system. It doesn't look like the IPD was involved in the destruction.
Regards!
