100 Full Duplex with Cisco Switch
I have a K260 attached to a Cisco 2900 switch
I was connected using Half Duplex
Since I have programed the switch and the K260 to use Full Duplex , glance
warns me that the Network error rate is greater than 10 per minute
glance shows very few collisons or errors:
there is only one lan connected to the network lan0
for lan0 Packets in is 172/197
Packets out is 125/168
Collisions are 0/0
Errors are 0.7/0.3
er what is the meaning of the fraction 172/197 ?
here is lanadmin

Deferred Transmissions = 0
Late Collisions = 0
Excessive Collisions = 0
Internal MAC Transmit Errors = 0
Carrier Sense Errors = 0
Frames Too Long = 0
Internal MAC Receive Errors = 0
I think that glance is warning me that I am getting a small number of errors
relative to the total traffic
can anyone confirm this thought

Re: 100 Full Duplex with Cisco Switch
Peter, check the duplex setting of your lan card. Issue lanscan to get the
NMID (10.20) or PPA (11.0).
Then type
#lanadmin -x NMID/PPA
If it is still running half duplex then type
#lanadmin -X 100FD NMID/PPA.
Ensure you have the latest patches for the card.

Re: 100 Full Duplex with Cisco Switch
The 100BaseT standard has a number of corner cases and LAN card mfr's that can't quite agree on an accurate way to auto-negotiate the speed and duplex. The most troublefree method is to always configure 100BaseT cards as 100/full-duplex on both ends (the Cisco side too) with no auto-negotiation.
Note: this doesn't apply to other LANs like fiber and gigabit where auto-negotiation is required.

Re: 100 Full Duplex with Cisco Switch
Hi Peter,
We had a huge rate of errors on our L servers and discovered that auto-negociation should be switched off. We manually forced speed to 100 and full duplex mode on both sides and got rid of all errors.
Make sure you have the latest 100BT cumulative patch applied.
Best regards,
Dan
