1000Base-T Dual port adapter on HP-UX 11.23
I am working on HPUX 11.23 integrity machine.
I need to set nic speed as 100 Full Duplex with auto negotiation turned off. I tried to do it with sam but after i set autoneg off than i find that i am not able to enable my network card. Similary i tried using lanadmin -X 100fd (ppa) but after the command execution, when i check it says that the link is down. So i need to set it back to auto neg on . Is it possible to set auto neg off apart from what i have done ? Anyways which i am not knowing ? Also read by googling that for 1000Base-T auto neg mandatory but my PM want's it to set to auto off with 100FD as it is already done on switch side.
So help me to know whether we can force the requirements posted above.
PS: Network card is HP A7012-60001 PCI/PCI-X1000Base-T Dual Port Adapter and Driver is iether
With warm regards,
ROY

Re: 1000Base-T Dual port adapter on HP-UX 11.23
Gigabit NICs need to be left as Auto Neg, you'll be unable to reactivate the card if you force it to 100 Full. I'm not aware of a way round this, just make sure your port on the switch matches.

I need to set nic speed as 100 Full Duplex with auto negotiation
That statement is impossible to implement.
auto negotiation implies that the speed other settings are not forced.
These cards btw only work properly in auto negotiate mode.
I would suggest you have the network switch port settings configured for 100 BaseT full duplex and this will cause the carud to function as you desire.

You can set auto negotiate off, but this very likely will lead to your link down situation.
Since you the switch port settings are correct, there should be nothing further to do. Check the settings, and if they are okay, run xstm or mstm or cstm and confirm the card is functioning normally.
You may also want to check server documentation at http://docs.hp.com and make sure you have the card installed in the correct slot. If possible, try another card.

" I need to set nic speed as 100 Full Duplex with auto negotiation turned off "
so i would like to know that whether this is possible or not and if yes how ... however your answer gives a good explanation of the situation if i want to have 100 full duplex with auto negotiation.

ROY

Re: 1000Base-T Dual port adapter on HP-UX 11.23
Looks like a bug in my brain software.
Yes it is possible to override autonegotiate. It probably won't work.
/etc/rc.config.d/hpbtlanconf (may be a different file for this NIC).
HP_BTLAN_INTERFACE_NAME[0]=
HP_BTLAN_STATION_ADDRESS[0]=
HP_BTLAN_SPEED[0]=
Change thelast line to:
HP_BTLAN_SPEED[0]=100FD
Sorry for my error.

Re: 1000Base-T Dual port adapter on HP-UX 11.23
Next if you have hard set your end to 100FD and the link is down, have your network team check their end again cos if they are set for anything other than 100fd, this is what you would see.
Of course, try with another patch cable as well...

Re: 1000Base-T Dual port adapter on HP-UX 11.23
So i can understand from your reply that setting auto negotiation off is possible in this card along with 100 fd ... and it can be done with lanadmin -X 100fd 2 (and later entry to driver conf file ...)
the only reason the card is not enabled after this setting is because at switch side
there may not be (100 Full Duplex auto nef off)

ROY

Re: 1000Base-T Dual port adapter on HP-UX 11.23
Unless your switch is really crappy (in which case it should be replaced), it should be perfectly possible to set it to autoneg and the gigabit NIC in the HP-UX system will do the right thing.
Otherwise, editing the etherconf or whatnot file is the way to kludge things to try to get it to work with your switch.
