11.00 to 11.23 September Version

Hi,

With the release of the new 11i v2 (11.23) September 04 which supports IA64/PA-RISC, can I update directly from an L2000 running 11.00 to 11.23?

You can try.

You should check if your server model is supported by 11 v2(11.23). Since its an L2000, I am 99.9% sure the OS is supported.

If thats true, update-ux should be able to do the job.

I'd be a lot more comfortable doing a cold install of the OS though.

Re: 11.00 to 11.23 September Version

If your L2000 is not that "complex" - try update-ux. If not, you'll be better off with doing a fresh Ignition of HP-UX.

All of my updates (from 11.0 to 11i) to date resulted in failures/problems in some form or another that I ended up re-imaging for 11i anyway.

If you wish to not have problems, you should do a cold install 11i v2. HP-UX 11i v2 supports L2000.

Since this is a production system; would it be better to update to 11.11 first and afterwards to 11.23 using update-ux?

If you don't really need 11i v2, i recommend upgrade to 11i v1 and stay at this level for some time. HP-UX 11i v1 is still supported OS.

I agree with everyone, definitely go for the fresh install of 11.23 and unless your applications won't run 11.23 then there's no real reason for you to go to 11.11.

Re: 11.00 to 11.23 September Version

You should check with your application vendors in choosing the OS. Since 11.23 is new, you may find certain application vendors do not support the OS. That means go with 11.11(11i v1).

If your applications are supported, going with 11i v2 is better, leaving you a longer OS life cycle prior to being forced to upgrade due to obsolescence.

Since your server is in production, consider to build a testing environment with new version of the OS and application, before upgrading production.
