Interestinly, the buffer cache setting (albeit via 'dbc_max_pct' prior to 11.31) has been 50% by default, out-of-the-box at least since 10x as far as I recall.

Ludicrous? That depends on your environment and what you do in it. You milage may vary as always.

That may be true, but 11.31 is the first version we've had where the filecache actually grew to the full 50%, and once it got there, it never shrank until the filecache_max was changed.

We had 11.23 on the exact same machine, running the exact same Oracle install, for 18 months before going to 11.31 and never saw the filecache get that large.
