11i Enterprise OE question

I would like to update the Glance product that is included in my Enterprise Operating environment to the latest version. What is HP's recommendation for updating this individual product that is bundled in the Ent-OE:

1. use swinstall and install glance off the latest application CD.
2. use swinstall and install the glance product from the Ent-OE CD (only choosing the glance product within the Ent-OE product).
3. use update-ux to update the entire Ent-OE, which will update the OS and all applications in the Ent-OE bundle.

Re: 11i Enterprise OE question

Hi Kyle,

Just do a swinstall and install lanecplus from the latest set of application cd. Make sure you haev a newer version. No point is trying to overlay the same version as before.

Hope this helps.

Re: 11i Enterprise OE question

I did this and it removed glance from the Ent-OE bundle and it was installed as a regular product.

After swinstall of glance - the big difference is when you do a:
# swlist HPUX11i-OE-Ent
the glance product is not included in the bundle listing anymore.

I don't know if this is a big issue or not since the binaries are located in the same location?

Any ideas?

Re: 11i Enterprise OE question

Hi Kyle,

There is no problem if the glance is not listed in the OE bundle. The new install of glanceplus would probably be listed as a seperate bundle and that should be fine. The big point is that you should be able to use the product.

Hope this helps.

Re: 11i Enterprise OE question

I did another test just for the heck of it to try to preserve the bundle:

- I swinstalled the glance product from the latest HPUX11i-OE-Ent. It kept the glance product in the HPUX11i-OE-Ent bundle. Is this update method also acceptable.

- better yet - could I do a swinstall and install the entire HPUX11i-OE-Ent bundle without using the update-ux command. This should update all the products in the bundle at once.

Re: 11i Enterprise OE question

Hi Kyle,

If you reinstall the whole bundle, this will overlay the files which were updated by linking from other products or the files updated by the patches. I have never tried to overlay the full product and can't say if it is recommended or not.

Maybe some other forum member who has done this before can help you with his experience.

If you have a support contract with hp, why don't give them a call and ask this question.

Hope this helps.

Sanjay,

We do have a support contract but I find better advice in this forum than calling into the support line.

Thanks

Re: 11i Enterprise OE question

hi,
HP clearly recommends in their HP-UX 11.i installation manual to use update-ux command to
upgrade the applications included in OE bundle itself. And to upgrade other applications not
included in OE bundle may be installed by swinstall command.
