Guys,
I am about to kick start a bunch of 11i installs on Itanium based systems. So here I am with a few questions. My plan is to create a basic image and then ignite them onto each machine.
a). Do I need to create images for each platform i.e I have rx3600s and rs6600s. Questions is, Can I use a rx3600 image to install a rx6600 ?
b). Does FOE VxVM [ The basic one ] allow rootvg mirroring ?. If yes, how do we do it?.
c). How does a locked product work on an image ? I have APA installed on the machine from which I am going to create an image [make_sys_image]. Will the new machines have APA as they may need seperate code words ?
d). Any further tips for me for the installs ? I am doing this after a long time.
Regards,
Kaps

Solution
Kaps,
a) Generally one image should work for both 3600s and 6600s, just make sure you're creating the image on a system with the *latest* release and using the *latest* version of ignite. This WP has more info:
http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-0733/5991-0733.pdf
b) Yes it does - however *only* if you have the default set of volumes (/, /stand, /usr, /opt, /var, /home, /tmp and swap) - it won't mirror *anything* else. Assuming your system already has a VxVM boot disk then just 'man vxrootmir'.
Of course I think you will find that both the rx3600 and rx6600 support hardware RAID on the SAS disks, so you can use that instead if you wish (although it does complicate Ignite...)
c) No the product won't be locked - codewords just protect depots, once a codeword is applied to a depot it can be installed anywhere - that doesn't make it legal though if you don't have the licenses!

Re: 11i Installs
This is the reason why I like this forum. Quality answers in a reasonable time. Thank you very much. I would appreciate if someone contributes some tips for me. I have got answers for all the questions, I will wait for some tips, if someone has time on a friday :)
