11iv1 vs 11iv2 on PA-RISC servers
We have an L1000 server with 2 440 processors and 2.5GB RAM and 2 RP7400 servers with 8 processors and 12GB RAM. We run Oracle8i and Oracle9i as well as Veritas on these machines.
We need to upgrade to 11i. We want to stay on the same OS version between our LClass and our RP7400s.
Is there any downside to going to v1 vs v2 or v2 vs v1? Will either system run more efficiently with an older system?
Thx for your help,
Andy

Re: 11iv1 vs 11iv2 on PA-RISC servers
11i v2 is much earlier in its support life cycle and is on that basis a better choice.
All other things being equal, it will be a lower cost option for these systems.
The driving factor however needs to be applications. If the applications support the newer OS, there are many, many benefits from going with it.

Re: 11iv1 vs 11iv2 on PA-RISC servers
The only downside going to 11iv2 is supported hardware.
Example: The A48004 FWD SCSI is not supported.
Currently, we have 10 servers out of 42 on 11iv2.
Check release notes and etc:

Re: 11iv1 vs 11iv2 on PA-RISC servers
Though I believe we are on Oracle 10G on most.
2 of them (running ServiceGuard) have Oracle 9.2.
No issues...
