3 attempts to telnet login

I get a 'connection to host lost' after 3 failed attempts to login when i telnet to my HPUX 11.

Can I disable this by letting the user attempts unlimited times?

On the other hand, can I lock the account after the 3 failied attempts?

Re: 3 attempts to telnet login

From the man pages for login:
"After three unsuccessful login attempts, a HANGUP signal is issued....
...this property is a security feature and cannot be modified...

Re: 3 attempts to telnet login

Hi,

As Richard said u can't let the user attempts to be unlimited.

Yes, u can lock account after 3 failed attempts by editing auth file.

For example if u want to set the same for login "guest":
1) Edit /tcb/files/auth/g/guest
2) Put an entry
.....:u_maxtries#3:.....

For more info u can go through man page for "prpwd".

Cheers...

Re: 3 attempts to telnet login

I think you have to convert your system to trust then you can apply to lock user id after three tries.

You can edit /usr/newconfig/tcb/files/auth/system/default.
