4 hpapache processes running

Hi guys,

When i do ps-ef|grep hpapache2,

o/p is www 28379 21223 0 Jun 3 ? 1:24 /opt/hpapache2/bin/httpd -d /opt/hpapache2 -k start
root 21223 1 0 Dec 11 ? 10:14 /opt/hpapache2/bin/httpd -d /opt/hpapache2 -k start
xyz 2957 2288 0 12:35:29 pts/0 0:00 grep apache
www 15825 21223 0 May 15 ? 3:16 /opt/hpapache2/bin/httpd -d /opt/hpapache2 -k start
www 24039 21223 0 Jun 1 ? 1:31 /opt/hpapache2/bin/httpd -d /opt/hpapache2 -k start


Hi may i know why are the child procs running in turn are started almost 4-5 mnths....?

Whereas in one of our servers http was consuming 100% cpu utilisn so i killed the procs and restarted it....and now all the 3 procs are started simulataneously one after another...May i know why????

Shalom,

Take a look at http.conf, which should be in /opt/hpws under apache2/conf and you will see that there are a certain number of processes started when the apache2 web server starts up.

This provides better performance on systems than waiting until there is a client browsing.

In other words its perectly normal, nothing to worry about having a few apache processes open on and idle system.
