All,

I am trying to FTP a set of file from one machine to other. When i intiate the process the job fetch some files and it fails with the below error.It is not failing at a constant point it is failing randomly.

" 421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection "

That message is produced by the client when it tries to use the network connection to the server and the server no longer responds.

A common reason for that message is an idle timeout at the server end. If you wait a while without transferring any data and without sending any FTP commands, the server breaks the connection.

If it happens when the FTP connection is active, then maybe there is an overloaded firewall at some point between the client and the server. When a firewall is overloaded, it may break some of the "least important" connections (as calculated by some algorithm) to free up some processing capacity.
