Our 74xx HP/9000 is reach ESOL the end of 2009. We are in process of defining a migration plan to a new hardware platform recommended by our vendor.
There are a couple of issues that have been raised and wanted to get input from the forums on how they have handled the issues that need to be addressed in such a migration.
Item #1. - The proposal calls for duplicate servers, one to act as primary database server for all but one of our districts, and the 2nd will act as a primary for our largest school district, and as a back up server. We will be addressing the systems to be identical as far as database spaces, and will not be real time, in the event of a failure we will have copies of the nightly exports and insert into the database on the 2nd server.
The main item of concern is maintaining multiple accounts and print queue to have identical features, so the restoration and recovery only requires we plug in a tape restore a database and inform the users to use the second server connection.
This leads me to the major areas of concern.
1. Converting User accounts from a trust HP/UX system to two identical RHES3,4 or 5 servers.
2. Converting Jetadmin/HPPI print queues to linux based printing on both of the new servers.
I am looking for scripting to convert ques, and users, to decrease database entry. I found Dusan's script for users acrossed multiple servers, the question is how to take the information from the trusted HP/UX to build the "file" he suggests.
Also, the learning curve on print ques scares me a bit. I have in the neighborhood of 300+ physical HPPI/jetadmin queues, and I would like to convert these somehow without reinventing a bunch of effort.
Any thoughts and suggestions will be appreciated..

Solution
Shalom,
1) User accounts. You can use the user list and group list, that should work in Linux, but you might have to re-arrange the columns or delete one. The authentication information is useless, trusted or not. You will need to set new password manually after the conversion.
2) Linux does not support that, you will have to build new print queues and adjust your printing process accordingly. I suggest a test plan.

Thank Steven,
We are building a test box, we've got a full 1-1/2 years to get details ironed out.
