A few forums enhancements and fixes....

Hi All,

Want to let you know that we'll be deploying some user requested enhancements and fixes. Most notably, the following:

1. The Question Author's name will now be in the Reply Page window as a link back to their public profile
2. The daily email notification will have a closing parenthesis in the ITRC section, allowing the links to work in certain browsers.
3. The links in your public profile page will all be in correct order (most recent first).
4. The ranking of Categories on the home page and in the most active listing will be correct.
5. The "new message" button will be changed to "start new thread". As well, the "reply" button will appear to the far right within threads and separated from the "start new thread" button.
6. The printable version link will be active in the message preview pages.
7. Question authors will be able to "close" their threads in the event they find a solution or a community member posts a solution. This will keep the author from having to assign points to additional replies once a solution is posted.
8. The number of rated replies seen in their public profile will now be upated correctly in the event some of the replies are removed. Finally!

Hope these help your overall forums experience.....

Thanks,
Dan

Re: A few forums enhancements and fixes....

Ahhhhhrg. The buttons are located wrong.

I think I now have pushed "Notify me" instead of "Reply" about 15 times! Grrrrr. Each time I have to go to my profile to get rid of the unwanted notification.

OK, I understand that there were a lot of people that mixed up the buttons, and the text could be better. Even though I /never/ mistakenly pushed the wrong button, I do so now on almost every occasion.

I like that the author is now shown
I like a thread can now be closed, but please make the possibility to make a remark for the closing an option (off by default). It's quite annoying to see a message pop to top with as only addition a text message "Closed." or "This thread now closed". Bah!
I like the correct order and other ranking issues solved

Re: A few forums enhancements and fixes....

Yes - well done.

I too keep pressing the "notification" button instead of reply...

As far as closing, I like how you can re-open the thread if need be.

Thanks...Geoff

PS: Can someone hit the turbo button on the forum servers? Slow again right now :(

Re: A few forums enhancements and fixes....

Nice job, Dan (& company)!

The thread closure feature is a great idea. As Merijn mentioned, it would be nice, though, if the closure could be accomplished without pushing it back to the top of the stack...

The author link is a nice addition, too.

Thanks for all your great work on the ITRC!

Re: A few forums enhancements and fixes....

procura/Geoff, sorry about the alignment of the buttons...thought they'd help in the long run, hopefully you'll grow accustomed to the new layout.

Dave/procura, you are right...closed threads need to remain where they are...I'll see if we can get that modifed soon.

All, we appreciate the support!

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

Can you also add Lock thread option in
Author's Forum Profile Page....
( Like Locking many threads at time )

Re: A few forums enhancements and fixes....

Hi Ramalingam,

The double results is an issue within the search index. It is something I've reported, and hopefully will be fixed soon.

Thanks for the 'lock thread' idea for your profile, will keep that in mind.

Re: A few forums enhancements and fixes....

Hai Dan,

It is really nice and seems to be great ( locks )

Some feedback's as

1. Is it good to display message as " Please recoginize the responders by assigning points on locking threads / disabling to notification. It will make a notification to the thread starter to give points so that no need to notify to assign points on some conditions :)

And one more thing is,

when i click my profile on browser client it sends me to

http://europe-support.external.hp.com/login/bin/doc.pl/screen=loginUserMaintenanceHome/distrib_redir=0+1093407853|*

so that i am getting could not login.

But if i go through the name on top new members (Muthukumar) it is going without any problem?

Thanks
Muthu

Re: A few forums enhancements and fixes....

Hi Muthukumar,

There are 2 database instances for login, one in Europe and one in US. Check the upper right of the page now and see if you are in Americas/Asia Pacific. The Europe login ids are of the format BRxxxxxx. You have the Americas/Asia Pacific format of CAxxxxxx, so you need to login on the Americas/Asia Pacific page. You may have visited the Europe login page and it reset your cookie which would explain why you are redirected there at times.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: A few forums enhancements and fixes....

Hi Dan,
Well i don't know if i am expecting too much and how much usefull this will be for other but it would be great if one can reopen the thread :).
Sometimes you feel like contnuing the same thread after some period of time when you face any new issues related to the same subject and then you require the history.
Also it may happen if someone by mistake or in a hurry clicks that tab.

Bharat

Re: A few forums enhancements and fixes....

Dan,

Just my opinion.

Few times I accidentally clicked "Post new thread ("new message" before) as it appears first. When people look at the thread either they try to get notified or try to respond to it.

"reply" button is looking too small when compared to the others. So, I would suggest something like "Post response" or anything that is little longer.

With that, I feel the order should be "Post response", "Notify Me", "Start new thread" as the last one is the least relavent action one would attempt while in that page.
