A NEW HAT ????

Looking at the points amassed by people like James and Stefan who are to my knowledge not HP staff then I think a new hat should be created to encompass their God / Deity status on the Forum.

For even though they have achieved the highest level they continue to give of their time and impart knowledge to us lesser beings.

Opinions please.

There definitely should be further point levels. (My guess is that HP didn't really expect anyone to get this far)

Thinking about which hat though... Obviously we need some addional icons for the new level(s), but as an alternative I thought it might be good if the next level had the option to have his/her mug shot displayed instead. Sort of give a personality behind the words. Professionally it could be beneficial as well. If you think a moment of how Interex places the mugs of the HP World presenters. Gives an additional sense of credibility. But as I said before, this should be optional! I'm not sure how many people would be left if my mug ended up on display. :-)

I like all the suggestions.....the propeller beanie is cute, but I have always thought of 'nerds' has having those pens in the plastic holders for their shirts....
Or maybe a pair of glasses with the center taped up....

And I especially agree with getting some more profile type icons.....We 'girls' have so few to pick from !! And I use the term girl loosely since I'm a grandmother...

Hi Paula,

I surely don't want to be considered as "sexist" but, this forum being international, it's impossible to determine the gender (M/F) of a user by looking at the first name. It's easy with first names like yours or mine (or Rick, Tim,Maureen...)

I'd really like if HP could provide more 'feminine' hats for our sysadmin sisters.

You definitely deserve your baseball hat, but don' you think that a different color could be nice?
Anyway, at the speed you are awarded points, you surely will get a new hat in a short while... ;-)

I would like a better choice of 1 to 10 female to male image that is available and perhaps a smaller version could be displayed ?wearing our various hats? alongside our user name.

'Propeller Head' has been a term associated with computing guru's for a long time. Probably a good choice for the top level. This thread makes me remember a party many years ago where the software engineering staff at Pick Systems (database engine) were all 'awarded' with the propeller hats purchased from Disneyland. They all loved them, wore tham during the entire affair (semi-formal), and most migrated back to their shop. It was priceless.

I think MULTIPLE propeller heads would be appropriate, one propeller head for every 10,000 points say. Or a scepter, robe, throne etc. added to the crown at every 10,000 points.

However, I think halos would be too christian-centric given the percentage of non-christian participants in these forums. (unless of course you wish to add appropriate symbols such as suffis, buddhas, etc. to cover other faiths).

Perhaps we should do better for those who reach 10,000 points or multiples thereof. Say 100 shares of HP stock for each 10,000 points! Money would certainly be a more potent motivator than a picture of a crown.

It seems to give you some additional wisdom that I really appreciate in your posts. Your 'been there, done that, and here is what I learned' approach is very refreshing.

We're watching alright, and thank you for raising this point about new hats for the community. To point out Tim's earlier post on the 30th, you're right... you have exceeded our expectations and we didn't expect anyone to get past the Royalty status so fast. We certainly figured people would make it there, but not in less than 6 months! So, you're right... you've caught us with our pants down so to speak, but we recognize that we need to add new cartoons & icons.

I have to admit there are bigger issues that we're working on fixing right now for the good of this service. I think you all would agree with me that the performance issues that we've seen in the Forums need more attention than designing new hats, so that's where we're focusing on R&D team right now. But, we certainly want to recognize & appreciate the works of people like Jim, Stefan, Andreas, & John who have rocketed past the 2,500 point plateau en route to some location in the 5-digit figures. So, we will be thinking about new ways to showcase the status of our community experts as they continue to provide more and more advice, expertise, and answers for the good of all.

We love the ideas.... so keep them coming, whether it's about new hats or new services that you think would tap into the expertise of the community and truly make your lives and jobs easier. We're listening!

It is very nice to see that you are monitoring the many and varied opinions voiced by forum members, which I am sure that HP will take on board some of the ideas muted here.

May I make a suggestion that the items ?servers 3000 & 9000? and ?hp-ux networking? be encompassed within the HP-UX section which will obviate the need to jump from one to the other.

Maybe the next level could be at 5000 points and be something like 'Saint' or 'Guru'. I don't know what kind of hat you would give them though.
