A5230 LAN on hp-ux 11.00 UNCLAIMED

Dear All,
I have installed LAN Card A5230A Card on my hp-ux 11.00.
However IT can not be seen in the ioscan. It says that it is “Unclaimed”.
Driver which needs to be installed is btlan5. I saw many forums which says that it is on Application CD1. However I do not have the cd.
Is there any way to have this btlan5 driver and procedure for installation?
I will appreciate any help on this issue.

Re: A5230 LAN on hp-ux 11.00 UNCLAIMED

Shalom,

I believe that this hardware is not certified on HP-UX 11.00 or your hardware.

If this is not the case and the software source is only the application cd you have limited options.

1) You can ask HP support to release the driver. If you have a support contract on another system, they might provide assistance.

2) You can pick up an hold application cd on ebay and try the installation from there.

The problem if you have not guessed is HP doesn't want to support 11.00 and is not likely to cooperate with this problem.

If your system (unrevealed in this post) will run 11.11 and supports the lan card (See http://dos.hp.com) then another possible solution is the 11.11 OS.

Re: A5230 LAN on hp-ux 11.00 UNCLAIMED

hi,

can you check if its loaded in the kernel.

sam->kernel configuration->drivers

If the driver is not loaded, include the driver, process a new kernel and reboot (choose action from the menu and process a new kernel.

Let us know.

The card is supported.
http://docs.hp.com/en/supportmatrixEthernetJune05.pdf/supportmatrixEthernetver1June05.pdf?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
You need the btlan5 driver which is product J4253AA (swinstall fileset). See if you can get the software in the attachments or ftp in this thread.

hi,

the card is supported on 11.0 and is ifact the same card as the part number B5509BA for the workstations.

if you do not have the app cd then do you have a core os cd? its on this also.

Re: A5230 LAN on hp-ux 11.00 UNCLAIMED

_Was_ the btlan5 driver on the 11.0 Core Os CDs? Btlan5 drove "add-on" cards not the core 10/100, that was the btlan3 driver. Perhaps btlan5 was on one or more "ACE" CDs but I am having trouble recalling if there were any 11.0 "ACE" releases or if all those were 10.20.

It wasn't until 11.11 (11iv1) where btlan[3456] got merged into one big happy driver for all the core and HSC/PCI add-on 10/100BT interfaces.

Dear TTr,
Thank you for your reply. I tried to open link you sent me, and I succeed to download sd file. However I could find how to install or how to use this file. Can you please send me some information how to use this sd file to install the driver.
Thank you in advance,

If it is a SD depot you can use swinstall:
# swinstall -s $PWD/depot-file \*

Hi Dennis,
When I downloaded from the links TTr sent me is some file (6301.sd). I tried to install it with swinstall but it says that it is not depot file and it can not be installed. I don't know if it is corrupted or I need to convert this sd file to a deport file. That is why I need additional instructions.

I assumed the attachments that Andreas provided were depots. What does "file 6301.sd" show?

Dear Dennis,
I tried to rename the file into B5509BA.depot.
The error I am receiving is different. Does it looks familiar to you?

Re: A5230 LAN on hp-ux 11.00 UNCLAIMED

The depot is revision B.10.20.01 which means it is for HP-UX 10.20. It is mentioned at the top of the thread with the attachments, I did not notice it the first time around either. It does have the btlan5 driver in it. I would force the installation in your case by setting the "allow installation of incompatible software". I think it will work although I would allow for a small chance that the new kernel might not boot up. Make a copy of /stand/vmunix to /stand/vmunix.good before installing it just incase the new kernel does not boot up. (It is a pain trying to keep track of vmunix.prev if you have to remove the driver when you build the kernel more than once).

swinstall -x allow_incompatible=true -s /6301.sd \*

Re: A5230 LAN on hp-ux 11.00 UNCLAIMED

Actually I found and am attaching the 11.00 software.

You have to uncompress it and un-tar it and use the directory "/depot" as the source depot in swinstall and not the tar file itself.

This is working fine, it is a depot, it just doesn't like your OS version. It helps if you mention what errors you get.
I'm not sure why it gave a better error after you renamed it?

>TTr: un-tar it and use the directory "/depot" as the source depot in swinstall and not the tar file itself.

Is this because you didn't use swpackage(1m) to create a tape depot?

Right. I used swcopy out of the CD which expected a directory path.

Re: A5230 LAN on hp-ux 11.00 UNCLAIMED

Dear TTR, Dennis,
Thank you for your help. Driver you sent me is what I need, however I still have some problems with rebuilding kernel. I receive following errors when I try to install the driver:
Unsatisfied symbol "prf_klog_getcount" in file /usr/conf/lib/libhp-ux
Unsatisfied symbol "prf_klog_getstring" in file /usr/conf/lib/libhp-u
Unsatisfied symbol "set_timedout" in file /usr/conf/lib/libhp-ux.a[sa

Error I received is blocking kernel to rebuild.
Once again thanks for your help.

Re: A5230 LAN on hp-ux 11.00 UNCLAIMED

The new depot is for HP-UX 11.00. You should have NOT used the "-x allow_incompatible=true" option. The new depot contains 32-bit and 64-bit libraries because HP-UX 11.00 came in 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Check with swlist and see if the depot shows up and use swremove to remove it. When removing it use the "-x allow_incompatible=true" option. Then install it again WITHOUT the "-x ..." option.

Re: A5230 LAN on hp-ux 11.00 UNCLAIMED

Looking in your attachment the 32-bit library is the problem

> Installing fileset "100BT-PCI-KRN.100BT-KRN32,r=B.11.00.05"

When you reinstall it only the 64-bit filesets will be selected from the depot.

Re: A5230 LAN on hp-ux 11.00 UNCLAIMED

Shalom,

This is unusual that the isntall would get to the stage it did and die like that.

Steps:
1) confirm the actual files the log is complaining about. Are they missing. If so, you need to install or re-install them.
2) swverifiy \*

Take a look at the output and see if any of it matches this log.
