The installation guide talks about loading a 'software' disk and then running swinstall to mark and install software for the 4-port card. I can't find any CD inside the box and so wondering what software was referred to and where I can get it. Any advice?

Re: A5506B 4-port LAN card installation
I have the same model card in an 'A' class server. You may need to add the driver into your kernel called 'btlan'.
# ioscan -fnkC lan
If the report has the driver as 'btlan' listed with your card, there is nothing to do. If not you need to add it to your kernel. I would suggest that using 'sam' is the best way.

Solution
This is a good reference, it tells you for each different n/w card what driver you need and where to get it (usually from Application CDs or came preloaded with the OS).
