I have an older N (pre rp74xx days) that must have HP-UX 11.00 installed, and I'm having trouble getting a new A7173A to work in it.
I've installed the March 2004 QPK and HWE packs, being the newest available, but the device still shows as UNCLAIMED in an ioscan.
Is there any way to get this this working?
All of the documentation available seems to only be for HP-UX11i, which, I would love to install instead, but I have a requirement for this particular situation using 11.00.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Don

Well, if the Sep 2004 HWE does not bring that puppy to a CLAIMED status it will be as I fear - an 11.11 only device.
Sometimes you win....sometimes you lose - such is the way.
If not you can always hope for the Dec '04 I guess.

Jeff

SolutionI'm sorry, but I have bad news for you.
All the docs on docs.hp.com for A7173A that I've reviewed do *not* reference 11.0 *at all*. This convinces me that this dual Ultra320 HBA needs a minimum of 11.11
Chin up,
Jeff

I confirm tyhat A7173A does not work with 11.0 (starts with 11i v1).
On 11.0, you can use other cards such a6828A or A6829A.

Re: A7173A Ultra320 controller in N-class running HP-UX 11.00
There is something else to the confirmation that U320 devices won't work in this case.
QPK1100 March 2004 and HWE1100 March 2004 include up to, but not beyond, support for Ultra160 SCSI.
U320 devices are not supported by the OS in any way. To test this, I did get the MSA30 shelf I was working with to recognise and work for a short time on another internal LVD controller in the N, (in a turbo slot, not the Ultra2 SCSI controller on the core I/O board) and it worked for long enough to copy data there. Once you you had two data streams going, vxfsd went down to .98% of a CPU and the load average went to 25, and everything stopped. Upon reboot, the volume group no longer would activate and the disks would just whine.
So much for that idea.
