abnormal account blocking

We have an HP9000 server, and suddenly our account were blocked. Without making any changes regarding passwords. How can we unblock them?

Fernando,

When you say they are blocked, do you mean you are getting prompted to login, yet the system ignores your username and password? Can root login??

Can you post the exact error message?

Also, make sure /etc/nologin does NOT exist.

MOST importantly login into the console as root, if you can not, this means your /etc/passwd file is probably corrupt. Which means you have to shutdown the server, probably with a HARD shutdown, then boot into single user mode and then manually FIX /etc/passwd with "vi".
