About ignite hardware support

I have read the ignite user guide and the document "successfully system cloning using ignite-ux", but still confuse. My question is,

1. The document said successful system restore require BOTH the ignite and OE support the hardware. I can make sure the OE installatin kernel support the hardware by installing related drivers, but how can I make sure ignite support my hardware? I have read ignite release notes but found nothing about it.

2. I am going to set up a ignite server. Must I use same ignite version for the client and server? and can I have server on hp-ux 11.23 and client on hp-ux 11.11? must the server and client on same architecture?(e.g. PA-Risc & Integrity)

Thanks a lot! any answer is appreciated!!

Re: About ignite hardware support

Hi Tim,

The ignite is running over HPUX. The hardware related to ignite is the space of memory and disk.

For the question 2, the ignite server can support PA-RISC and Intel at the same time. It doesn't need the same version of HPUX at server and client.

Hopefully, it is helpful.

Thanks,

John

Re: About ignite hardware support

what ignite server version you want to use. Below is the details for version C.7.2.

The C.7.2 release of Ignite-UX supports the the following HP-UX
release/architecture combinations:

HP-UX release HP 9000 systems HP Integrity systems

B.11.00 Yes No
B.11.11 Yes No
B.11.23 Yes Yes
B.11.31 Yes Yes

This version can be installed on any server running one of the above
releases of HP-UX when downloaded from the Web.

Ignite-UX version C.7.2 contains the following new features:

- End of support for 11.00 release

This is the final release of Ignite-UX that will contain support for
the B.11.00 release and its installation and recovery. In the next
release, the Ignite-UX-11-00 bundle and its content will no longer be
provided. If you wish to continue to support 11.00 clients, you must
keep an Ignite-UX server around with this or an earlier version.

Re: About ignite hardware support

Thank you all for the information. I have read through the documents. My machine is a rp 7420 with PCI-X backplanes. From the document "successful system cloning using HP-UX", Ignite version 7.0 or above support PCI-X backplane. So what does it mean? Someone told me it is not necessory to have 7.0 or above to backup up rp7420. Where can I found information?

Thanks a lot!

Re: About ignite hardware support

I got confused when reading the document.

http://docs.hp.com/en/5992-1998/5992-1998.pdf
on page 5

It seems that we need ignite 7.0 or above to support PCI-X. I just feel strange as some old system already equiped with PCI-X many years ago, so how ignite is used on those system?

Re: About ignite hardware support

There is a diffrence in saying "supported" to "works". So that document did NOT say "will not work" and that is what happening in your case.

so it is not mandatory to get have that version to get that works.
