my customer said that the tape on the L1000server had something wrong
there is no modem on the L1000 server but N4000 server does
so i connected the N4000 server by the modem in it
and then telneted onto the L1000 server
but i couldn't login by root user
so i logined by another user but when i executed #su -
command
and tried to make me root
but i failed
how to change the configuration
in order that i can telnet it by root?

Re: about login!
check /etc/securetty exists.
If it exists then rename/remove the file.
This would make the root directly telnet from anywhere.
This is a good security feature.
Think twice before disabling it.
Not sure why you could not do a su to root.
check for any deny script in /etc/profile
Thanks

Solution
Certainly the presence of the /etc/securetty will deny access to your server as root. As suggested check the /etc/profile file for any access denial as root. Is there 'sudo' on the server that you could use. Have you logged on to this server before? Exactly what message did you get when you tried to 'su -' ??
