Re: about the Diagnostic and EMS process

EMS is a SNMP ip utility.

Probably accepting the default configuration that comes with installation of the 'diagnostics' package is all you'll need, unless a problem device reports problems every 15 min, then you'll want to disable it.

Logs for EMS are located under :

/etc/opt/resmon/logs/*

Note the 'api.log' especially.

You'll also need the first link below in particular, in order to get an explanation about the event messages comming from EMS.

http://docs.hp.com/hpux/content/hardware/ems/dm_chassis.htm#1353

Here's an additional link if you want to try 'monconfig', for example:

Re: about the Diagnostic and EMS process

I am beginning to warm to EMS btw.

Yesterday after HP replaced a CPU in the same cabinet, I got an email.

It informed me that one of the power supply fans was disconnected from its power source on our rp5450.

Unbelieving, I went upstairs and looked, saw that one fan's little green light was off but it was amazingly still running.

Went into the back traced the cord, and sure enough it was unpluggged.

Its getting better, but you still have to be careful which ones you call hardware support on.

Re: about the Diagnostic and EMS process

As Michael said, check the log files in /etc/opt/resmon/logs

The EMS daemons are designed to restart themselves if one dies for any reason.

Check the /etc/opt/resmon/lbin/monconfig command for status and configuration of your monitoring daemons.
