Long story short:
I was adding a jailed ftp user on a clustered system and while firmly believing I was in the correct home directory of the user, I tried to change the ownership of usr.
Unfortunately I was in / and you can imagine the ice cold chill going up my spine as I realized what was actually happenening.
I did managed to change back the permissions of the files (the cluster came in handy for comparison) but I still don't feel like everything is OK.
My question would be if there is any other way of recovering the permissions without a full /usr restore.
It's a HP-UX 11.11 OS if that helps.
Thanks in advance,
Eugen

Re: Accidental chown +R [user]:[group] /usr
Posting an HP-UX question in an HP-UX forum
instead of in this Linux forum might help.
