SolutionI haven't had time to fool with AD, as I have to have the M$ admins add my samba server into their domain in order for samba to use AD for authenicating users. I'm sure it would work, but again just haven't had the time to convince the M$ admins to loosen up.
Don't you just love M$. When they have a bug that they don't know how to fix, they call it a Feature or "we designed it that way".

Re: Active directory and Samba
How have you worked around the authentication problems? Do you use a separate smbpasswd file on your samba installation?

Re: Active directory and Samba
I have Win/NT/XP Samba shares on 11i authenticating via Active Directory on a W2K server.
Had to liase with the Windows support people here to get working but the Samba Project documentation Chapter 8 detailed it - See local installed CIFS documentation or http://www.samba.org for a copy of this.
Recall I had to set security = domain in smb.conf and then use smbpasswd command to join the windows domain. but there may have been more to it.

Re: Active directory and Samba
Microsoft may be broken, but they are broken in a consistent and emulatable way. even our old 10.20 boxes joined the AD just fine.
what problems are you seeing specifically?
