Add Volume group to Cluster
We have a 2 node cluster.
I have created a new volume group and added it to one of the cluster package cntl files.
I have run cmcheckconf and cmapplyconf,
and the volume group shows up in lvmtab.
The volume group does not show as being exclusive, in vgdisplay.
This is a production system, and I have read many of the articles on adding volume groups,
but still have a few questions.
If I want to make this volume able to fail over and be accessed by the other node I need to share it, correct.
I have to umount the filesystem first?
umount /filesystem_mountpoint
I then have to deactivate the volume group?
vgchange -a n /dev/vgvolumename
Add it to the cluster and make it sharable
to the other node.
vgchange -c y -S y /dev/vgvolumename
Make the vg exclusive.
vgchange -a e /dev/vgvolumename
mount the filesystem.
mount /filesytem_mountpoint.
Does this sound like what I want to do?
I need to make sure since this is production
data going on this mountpoint.

Re: Add Volume group to Cluster
Hi,
You dont need to do cmcheckconf and cmapplyconf to add a VG to the cluter. You can make the VG cluster aware by
# vgchange -c y
and then you can use this VG for your package.

Re: Add Volume group to Cluster
You have it mostly correct to set the volume group up to be shared. You don't need the -S y.
1. umount /fs
2. vgchange -a n vgxx #deactivate
3. vgchange -c y vgxx #make it cluster aware (exclusive activation)
4. vgchange -a e vgxx #activate exclusively
5. mount /fs
You will still need to export and import it to the second node later, but the volume group is now setup to protect it from being activated on more than one node.

Re: Add Volume group to Cluster
Thanks,
That is exactly what I did, and all seems good now. All I have left to do is do the vgexport and vgimport.
