Adding additional autoraid 12h to server

Want to add on an additional autoraid 12h to
a server. Just want to know if there will be any problems hooking it up. There still is old data on the disk drives, and was planning on removing it when the system comes up. Just want to make sure that having data on the disks will not cause problems with system.

Thanks

You need not worry about that. Because just by adding disks/arrays the Volume Groups doesn't automatically get imported (if you are using LVM).

Are you connecting AR12H to a different SCSI Controller or cascading it??

Re: Adding additional autoraid 12h to server

Having data on disks will not cause any issues to system during boot up (after you connect your disk array). What you to check is:

1) SCSI Adapter compatibility and availability.
2) SCSI ID conflicts (if you are connecting to an existing BUS).
3) SCSI Cable type, compatibility and termination.
4) Update system with latest hardware patches

If you donot want the data on AutoRAID 12H, I would first reconfigure the disk array (LUNs) and add it as a fresh one.

While there is no problem connecting external storage, if you are planning to do it online you may run into problem, usch SCSI reset etc.

Having data on 12h poses no problem for server.

Yes I am hooking it up to another differential scsi controller card on the server, to avoid conflicts.

Well since you are connecting AR12H on a different bus you absolutely need not worry about any thing.

Re: Adding additional autoraid 12h to server

Probably the easist method is to simple delete each Logical Drive (LUN) using the front panel. If you like, after deleting the LUN's, you can also format the array (it only takes a few seconds) and you are assured of a tabula rasa.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
