Adding Network printer in Unix

I have just added an HP LaserJet 5100 printer to be a network printer. The printcap entry looks like ;

lp22|22|nka_min_prt: :lf=/usr/adm/lp22err: :lp=: :pl#66: :pw#132: :rm=10.10.8.17: :rp=nka_min_prt: :sd=/usr/spool/lpd22:
When I check the status, the feedback is ;

:moe41np_mopani_prod-->>lpq -Plp22
nkana.mopani.com.zm: Wed Nov 27 13:03:02 2002:
JetDirect lpd: no jobs queued on the port Auto

Which parameter in the printcap do I need to add or correct to get the printer to print ?

Thanking You all In Advance.

Re: Adding Network printer in Unix

Hi,

it seams as you are using the wrong modelscript. Herpas you have to download the newest version of JetAdmin:

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/nonjsnav/hpuxandsol28679.html

and then select the right modelscript for a LaserJet 5100.

Re: Adding Network printer in Unix

Thanks all for the responses. Sorry though, I forgot to mention that I am using Digital Unix. I tried the hppi command but it doesn't exist. Would you know the equivalent ?

Re: Adding Network printer in Unix

Sorry, but perhaps you can find an answer on the "old" ;-) Compaq forum.

Re: Adding Network printer in Unix

All you need to do is create a remote printer queue.

Set up the printer to a remote LPD with the hostname of the printer, and the spooler name of "AUTO" (make sure it's cap's).

All HP printers have a built in lpd, so will respond as a Unix host to the spool AUTO.
