Adding SCSI Card in HP-UX 11i

Hello!

Tring to add a A5150A (SCSI card) on to a L-2000 (A5191A). The ioscan does not see the card, and under SAM it says unknown card. Am having the same issue with a A5158A (FC card).

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

The first thing that I would do is look for and install the latest HardWare Enablement (HWE) bundles. These will be found on any of the periodic patch disk sets.

You don't say what version of HP-UX you are running, which makes things a bit more difficult.

The problem probably is that you have not installed the drivers needed for HP-UX to see the cards.

The drivers can generally be found on the HP-UX Application CDs. You may have to browse throuth the TABLE_OF_CONTENTS file on one of the CDs to determine exactly which package you need for your SCSI and FC cards.

If the driver is not installed card will not get sensed.

To check the driver availability see the system file for driver name.

If absent driver to be included in the kernel .

you need the driver installed for the cards

for the scsi card check the driver is in the kernal with sam, if not add it in here. you need the scsi3 and c720 drivers.

for the fibre card download the driver from here if you dont have the apps cd

it is called fibrechanl-00 for the A5158A on 11.i apps cd.

both will require a reboot of the system

Hello!

Let me answer all the questions:

Clay: The Hardware Enablement Bundle from Dec 2006 is already installed. This was a brand new install from the Dec 2006 CD's.

Patrick Wallek: It is 11i. The drivers that I have on my other L2000 which has the 5158 Fibre card is in this machine as well. I did reinstall the fibrechanl00 driver from Apps CD 1. Will check the rest of the apps CD's.

Ganesh: Already check the /stand/system file

Luk: Read the install manual already. Only thing that I have not checked is the termination. WIll check that now.

Andrew: Already have drivers, and patches mentioned.

How about the firmware on L2000. Have you checked if it's compatible with the card you're trying to install. The A5150A card has an auto termination feature that needs to be turned off if it's in an MC/SG env.

I updated the firmware earlier. The problem was solved, and the auto-termination got the ball rolling. :-) Will update in the next post.
