Adding USB tape drive in HP-UX 11iv1

I am trying to add an USB DDS4 tape drive (DW022A) in my HP-UX 11iv1. I have tried the following steps:-
(1)sam > Kernel Configuration > added sdisk driver to the kernel > Rebuilt kernel > Rebooted the system
(2)After reboot
# ioscan -fn
# insf -e
# ioscan -funC tape
but there is no output. Will this procedure work for usb devices

Re: Adding USB tape drive in HP-UX 11iv1

Hi,

USB devices other than keyboard and mouse are not supported with 11.11.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Adding USB tape drive in HP-UX 11iv1

The rp3440 chassis is the same as the rx2600 and rx2620. Both rx servers can run hp-ux 11.23, 11.31, windows and linux.
Some of these OS support USB connected tape drives.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Adding USB tape drive in HP-UX 11iv1

Heres the user manual for your server:
http://www.docs.hp.com/en/hw.html#HP%209000%20rp3410/rp3440%20Server

In the user guide it states:
USB Connectors
The USB connectors provide:
â ¢ High speed 480 MB/sec. capable.
â ¢ Full speed 12 MB/sec. and low speed 1.5 MB/sec.
â ¢ Support for USB keyboard and mouse.
â ¢ HP-UX supports HP USB keyboard and mouse.

It doesn't really mention any other items you can use with them.

My guess is its more of an OS limitation as the 11.23 manual talks a bit more

:
USB-00
The USB-00 product, version C.01.03.01, delivers a USB infrastructure and driver
package to support keyboards, mice, and HP DVD boot for the HP BladeSystems.
Summary of Change
USB-00, version C.01.03.01, includes various quality improvements from previous
releases, a dynamically managed device file system, and USB mass storage encryption
support.
Impact
USB-00 delivers a new subsystem for dynamically managing USB device special files.
The Device File System is not enabled by default, but you can optionally enable it by
referring to product documentation (see the following â Documentationâ section).
USB-00 also delivers a utility to encrypt USB mass storage devices, usbencrypt (1), that
allows the user to control access to a USB device. For more information, please refer to
the usbencrypt (1) manpage.
Compatibility
This USB product will not be compatible with any application that accesses human

device special files for USB-00 are located in /dev/deviceFileSystem. For more
information please refer to the HP-UX Device File System Userâ s Guide, available at
http://docs.hp.com/en/7407/DevFSUsersGuide.pdf.
