Addprinter error when adding a printer

HP 11.0 using jetadmin to add a printer. On the final step of adding a printer to the spooler, typing "0" to configure; I receive "Addprinter error: can't find /etc/lp/interface/lp004" [lp004 being the printer_name]. The lpsched process stops and never restarts again after this error message. Any ideas on how to correct this???

I would verify you have the correct permissions on /etc, /etc/lp, and /etc/lp/interface. Make sure the owner is "lp" and they are 755.

Re: Addprinter error when adding a printer

The problem is due to incorrect permissions. See document ID: KBRC00000428 at:

Re: Addprinter error when adding a printer

Been there - done that. Your problem is definitely related to permissions and ownership. The best solution is to perform an uninstall and reinstall of JetAdmin. Make sure you are root (not su or sudo) when you do the install and check that the umask for root has not been made more restrictive than normal (if so, 'umask 0' prior to install will allow proper installation).

BTW... The default format of your print q designations suggests that you may be using an old version of JetAdmin. An up to date copy is available at http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hpjetadmin1875_swen.html
