ADSM troubleshooting, maybe challenge?

We use IBM Tivoli ADSM as backup, one of my HP-UX server's adsm client daemon can't realease memory and cause my memory usage goes up to 100%, so perfermonce of the server is bad, Any buddy can give me the idea about this ADSM client problem? IBM's support is poor. My server use hp-ux 10.20 and the ADSM is ADSM 3.107 for HP-UX. I hace 512M RAM.
Thank you very much!

Re: ADSM troubleshooting, maybe challenge?

Try killing the daemon and restarting it. Why don't you put an entry in "inittab" file so that it can be started automatically when you kill it or when the server shutdown/reboots. I guess you must be backing this server atleast once in a day. So restart the ADSM client deamon before the backup and stop it after backup. Also i guess u need to review your ADSM client configurations. We too use ADSM a lot but haven't see such an occurence yet.

Re: ADSM troubleshooting, maybe challenge?

I agree with you, I have other ADSM clients on the other HP server, they work perfect. I use the same solution you gave me after I post that message, I just don't feel very well on it. I will try to check our ADSM config, thanks.

Re: ADSM troubleshooting, maybe challenge?

At the time of the problem , are you running a backup , a specific schedule , retrieving files etc ..?

Have you had a look at the error log files , to see if the error is at the server end or client end depending on the error message in the log e.g ANR(values)
Seek and you shall find

Re: ADSM troubleshooting, maybe challenge?

Hi Sunny,

It has been a couple of years since I worked with ADSM so please take what I say with a grain of salt. If I remember correctly memory usage for the client is a configurable parameter in the policy domain for that client set. Make sure that you are not over-allocating your clients memory for the time period you are performing your backups.

Also, I always found the user group very supportive at listserv@vm.marist.edu.

To join, e-mail listserv@vm.marist.edu stating SIGNOFF ADSM-L in the body of the e-mail.

Good Luck.
