I was hoping to get some advice regarding shares between windows and HP-UX. I primarily need my UNIX boxes to be able to see windows shares, however vice versa would be nice too. I know there are a number of software packages available...what would you recommend and what functionality does each provide.
Thanks again for all the help and great advice.
Mike

Re: Advice re: windows/UNIX communication
HP's Advance Server works nicely
Shares Disk and printers by simple command line
ie net share device - or can be done by GUI

Re: Advice re: windows/UNIX communication
Don't know if you're using hp-ux 11.X.
HP has a replacement for ASU(Advanced Server)
called CIFS.
Check the following:
http://www.hp.com/workstations/products/unix/operating/cifs_faqs.html
http://www.docs.hp.com/hpux/11.0/index.html
And go to CIFS
Good Luck

SolutionThe HP CIFS9000 is actually a previous version of samba with their own tweaks.
Last I knew, the latest samba was 2.7 and the CIFS9000 was samba 2.6

Re: Advice re: windows/UNIX communication
We have Windows desktops accessing Unix boxes.
We also have Samba Loaded and if I'm not mistaken NFS also has to be setup for the communication to work.
My problem originally was getting 98, ME and Windows Nt desktops to communicate.
By running the attachment I don't have the problem. What the attachment does is it makes an entry in the registry to enable PlaintextPasswords.
Hope this Helps out
