After upgrade to HP-UX 11.11 LAN connection erratic

I upgraded from HP-UX 11.00 to 11.11 and my network connections have become erratic.

I sometimes cannot logon to the machine, it sometime drops me out and the backups won't work.

This is on 2 seperate LAN's on 2 seperate network interfaces.

Any ideas?

Can you try setting speed to permanent, it may be auto.

lanadmin -S

Hi,
Could check following
NIC interface configuration.
Speed - 100 Mbps Duplex - Full
IP Add. / Subnet / Gateway Settings

It is alreay set to 100/Full no autoneg

Everything is set as it should be as far as i can tell, it seems strange it started having problems after the upgrade

Can't say exactly but suggest you to check for Uptodate patches.

Could you be a bit more precise about "erratic?" Do you see link-level errors in lanadmin statistics? Do you see retransmissions in netstat -p tcp? That sort of thing.

Can you post your netstat -in, netstat -rn and lanscan commands so that one can take a second look?.

It helps you hard code your network speed.

Also don't forget to make the switch port settings consistent with these settings.

Your outputs are looking good.

How did you upgrade the system?. Cold install or using the regular update from 11.to 11.11 using swgettools?.

If it is a cold install, did you use the ignite image from some other system?. If so, ensure that the MAC addresses are not hardcoded in your /etc/rc.config.d/hp*conf files.

I used update-ux to upgrade the system so the mac addresses should be fine

Was the upgrade completely successful?. Did you see any errors?. How about

swverify \*

Do you see any issues with it?.

I am not a favorite of upgrading and I always do cold installs. However, people that did a lot of customizations don't have that choice. I had seen more SAs that did update complaining about issues than the ones that did cold installs.

Try installing reasonably latest patches and see if any of them could fix your problem.

Hi,

I am not worried about permissions issues on man page files.

But the failures of components related to INETSVCS, DCE and SYSADMIN are alarming.

Try installing reasonably latest patches like March 2004 HWE and QPK bundles and see if that helps.

If it works, prepare a make_tape_recovery tape/network ignite image before you make further changes on the system.
