All text files printed from HP-UX will stair-step down--ux2dos
All text files printed from HP-UX will stair-step down the page because Windows will not perform any cannonical file translation (ie, add CR to every LF), so on the HP side, once you get the connection working, you'll have to create an lp wrapper for remote printers which runs all text files through ux2dos and then prints them
can someone please elaborate on this ux2dos and lp wrapper.. i have 4 rp5470 and 2 rp2470. i have installed network printers and remote printers.. i have this problem where the stair step down is happening..

Re: All text files printed from HP-UX will stair-step down--ux2dos
Hi Victor,
does it also happens when you do a 'ls |lp' from UX?
Then you also can try to configure the printer with a different printer model.
I had to make some tests to get the side steps away, but it works without lp wrapper.

Re: All text files printed from HP-UX will stair-step down--ux2dos
Victor,
Do you have the TCP/IP Print Service enabled on the Win2K machines? If not, try enabling it and see if you still get the stair-step. I've got a couple of Win2K machines with printers hanging off them via the parallel port and none have the stair-step issue when printing from our rp5470 (HP-UX 11i, but it worked under 11.0 as well).
I configured mine by installing UNIX Print Services, sharing the printer in Windows, and enabling the TCP/IP Print Service.
On the HP-UX side, I just added them as remote printers in SAM, using the computer's host name as the Remote Host Name and the share name as the Remote Printer Name.
Regards,
Seth

Re: All text files printed from HP-UX will stair-step down--ux2dos
Hi Guys,
all is ok , i had already installed the print services for Unix on my win2k machines. Those seem to be ok. Just that there is this LaserJet5Si printer that is giving me this problem when in issue and lp filename from the rp5470. I looked up this elsewhere and they said somethin abt PC-FL settings on the printer. Will look into that area. Thanks anyways guys.. primarily my Oracle Apps had to print ok . thats fine with the Print services for Unix on the windows machinces.
